Location
Where we are
Via San Gallo, the road where the Orto de' Medici boutique hotel is located, is one of Florence's oldest and most characteristic streets. In fact, it preserves the elegant style of the stately palaces that line it and the local soul that you can still breathe in the typical Florentine stores.
It is conveniently located at a short distance from the major beauties of this wonderful Renaissance city.
Ponte Vecchio
The origins of the most famous bridge in the world date back to the time of the Etruscans. Built at the narrowest point of the Arno River, over the centuries it was destroyed and rebuilt several times until it was completely remade in stone to take the shape it has today.
Originally, its characteristic shops were only butcher, fruit, and vegetable stores, but under the reign of Ferdinando I de' Medici, they were all converted into jewelers and goldsmiths to increase their prestige. Such is the beauty of this bridge that even the Germans, during the Second World War, did not have the heart to blow it up.
Florence Cathedral
Considered one of the most beautiful sights in Florence, the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore was designed by architect Arnolfo di Cambio in the 13th century. Numerous great artists contributed to the building's realization, including Giotto and Filippo Brunelleschi, who executed the spectacular Dome. The interior hosts important masterpieces, such as frescoes by Paolo Uccello and Vasari, and Michelangelo's famous Deposition sculpture.
Uffizi Art Gallery
The Uffizi Gallery is the largest museum collection in the world, with true masterpieces from the finest of artists such as Cimabue, Giotto, Gentile da Fabriano, Paolo Uccello, Piero della Francesca, Botticelli, Leonardo, Perugino, Correggio, Mantegna, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Goya, and many more. You can admire nearly 5,000 works of art including miniatures, tapestries, and sculptures.
